Adi Kailash, also often called Chhota Kailash (Chhota Kailash), is a sacred pilgrimage site located in the remote and ancient regions of the Himalayas in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. It is considered one of the holiest and most revered places in Hinduism, especially for devotees of Lord Shiva. This area also holds great importance in Hindu mythology. According to some beliefs, Adi Kailash is the place where Lord Shiva meditated in the early days, and it is known as the original seat of Lord Shiva before climbing Mount Kailash.
Om Parvat is one of the most revered and mystifying peaks in the Himalayas, located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. The mountain is famed for its unique shape, which, when viewed from a certain angle, resembles the sacred Hindu symbol “Om.” The shape of the OM is most visible during the winter months when ice formation is most pronounced. Pilgrims often travel to view this sight, which is considered both awe-inspiring and spiritually uplifting.
There are many other important and popular attractions to visit on the way to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. Some of them are Parvati Lake, Gauri Kund, Kunti Parvat, Pandava Fort, Bahama Parvat, Parvati Mukut, Shesh Nag Parvat, Ved Vyas Cave, Kali Temple etc. It is said that Lord Shiva (Lord Kedarnath) used to come here to spend time with Goddess Parvati, son Kartikeya and younger son Ganesha and admire the beauty of nature.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Adi Kailash and Om Parvat is from late May to October, as the region experiences heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions during the winter months, making it inaccessible.
Challenges and Safety
Trekking up to Adi Kailash and Om Mountain is physically demanding, and visitors need to be adequately prepared for high-altitude trekking. The area is remote and facilities are minimal, so trekkers must carry all the necessary equipment. Due to its proximity to the international border with China, anyone wishing to trek in this area requires a permit.
