Itinerary
On arrival, check in at the booked hotel and relax. Later, visit Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga for darshan and get bowled-over by the wondrous architecture featuring a finely sculpted shikhara (spire). Popular legend states that Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of Mahakaal to save his devotees from the fierce demon named Dushan and blessed them to stay here forever to bless his followers. You will be mesmerized to know that this is the only Jyotirlingam where the idol is Dakshinamurthy (south facing). Moreover, it has a Shakti-Peetha (dedicated to Goddess Shakti) where the upper lip of the goddess (who is known here as Mahakali) had fallen. Depending on time available, visit other important temples in the city, including Kaal Bhairav Temple and Chintaman Ganesh Temple or monuments like Kaliyadeh Palace and Ved Shala. On arrival check in to the booked hotel and later proceed to the temple. Omkareshwar is the place where Lord Shiva blessed Vindhya Mountain to be the largest mountain in the region. It is believed that Shiva divided the Lingam into two parts – one at Omkareshwar and the other at Mamleshwar on the exact opposite bank of the Narmada River.
