Welcome to the spiritual journey of Dwarka Somnath Yatra. Visiting Dwarka and Somnath is a trip to two of the most important and revered pilgrimage sites for Hindus, both located in the western state of Gujarat, along the coast of the Arabian Sea. These cities are closely associated with Lord Krishna and are part of the Char Dham Yatra, which includes the four most important pilgrimage sites in India.
Dwarka – Dwarka, an ancient city in Gujarat, is considered one of the seven Moksha Puris (cities that provide liberation from the cycle of life and death) in Hinduism. It is famously associated with Lord Krishna, as it is believed that this is the city he founded and ruled from.
Highlights of Dwarka Temples:
Dwarkadish Temple – The main attraction in Dwarka, this temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is worshiped here as Dwarkadhish (King of Dwarka). The architecture of the temple is stunning, with intricate carvings and a large courtyard.
Bet Dwarka (Bet Shankhodhar) – A small island about 30 kilometers off the coast of Dwarka, it is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood and youth. The island is home to the Bet Dwarka temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, and is a tranquil destination for pilgrims.
Rukmani Devi Temple – This temple dedicated to Rukmini, the wife of Lord Krishna, is a major landmark in Dwarka. The beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere of the temple make it a must visit.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple – One of the twelve Jyotirlingas (sacred temples dedicated to Lord Shiva), it is located near Dwarka. This temple is important for the devotees of Lord Shiva.
Gopi Talav – A sacred lake is believed to be the place where gopis (cowboys) used to gather to remember Lord Krishna.
Somnath – Somnath, also located in Gujarat, is home to the famous Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The city is also historically important, as it is the site of several invasions and the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple, but it remains an important spiritual and cultural centre.
Highlights of Somnath:
Somnath Temple – The most important attraction of Somnath, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is an architectural marvel, known for its stunning spire and historical significance. The temple is located on the seashore, and pilgrims often come to worship overlooking the Arabian Sea.
Triveni Sangam – Near Somnath temple there is a confluence of three rivers Hiran, Kaveri and Kali. This place is considered very sacred and pilgrims come here for the holy bath.
